JavaScript Option in WordPress

The PrintFriendly & PDF WordPress plugin has a JavaScript Option & No JavaScript Option.

Advantages of the JavaScript option:
  • Faster for the end-user. The technology works client-side, so there's no network lag.
  • Better results: Works with dynamic and password protected content which can't be included when using the Non-JavaScript(server side) option.
  • Seamless experience for the end-user. Uses a "lightbox" the displays the preview over the actual page, so users never leave the page they intended to print.
So why wouldn't everyone want to use the JavaScript option? The main reason is, it includes a JavaScript on your webpage. Many websmasters have had bad experiences with JavaScript files included on their website from unprofessional developers. A poorly developed JavaScript file included on your website can wreak all sorts of havoc, from slowing down page load to preventing the page or elements of the page from loading; therefore, some webmaster want to avoid completely.

The quality of our JavaScript file:
  • Efficient: Our JavaScript file is small (11.8 KB) JavaScript file on your page.
  • Speedy: We deploy our JavaScript file from a CDN (Content Delivery Network) so it's loaded quickly from the faster server near the end-user
  • Reliable: Another feature of the CDN, there's servers all over the world and is very reliable (doesn't go down).
  • Best practices: We include the footer in the WordPress footer, so it's only loaded after your page content is fully displayed to the end-user. It does not slow down the page load for the end-user.
For those reasons, we recommend the JavaScript option.
